Covering products can contribute to sustainability of a covering surfaces in important ways and help qualify for certain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points.

One environmental contribution possible with basement ground covering is that it can reduce unwanted runoff of rainwater. Large volumes of water flowing over the covering surfaces systems can cause erosion. They can carry materials and substances to downstream locations where they are unwanted or may accumulate in toxic concentrations.

Both covering coating and residential covering surfaces are available in pervious versions. A pervious material allows water to flow through covering basement ground readily and naturally. A heavy accumulation of water can soak directly into the ground as it naturally would, rather than run over the land. The use of a pervious paving may even contribute to qualifying for a point on the LEED scale. This is LEED credit 6.1, entitled "Stormwater Management." Credit 6.1 lists the scale for projects with environmentally sensitive covering ground sealer management.

Both forms of rustoleum basement ground covering are also available in light colors that naturally reflect sunlight. This keeps the surrounding area cooler than darker paving products like asphalt. In the summer this keeps the surrounding areas cooler. That can increase comfort and decrease air conditioning costs. It might also help qualify for one LEED point awarded to landscaping that mitigates the so-called "heat island effect." This is LEED credit 7.1.

The covering basement ground coating products are all relatives of established covering ground systems. They can therefore be textured and colored with a very broad range of techniques developed for all of these systems.

Pavers and retaining walls are concrete masonry products manufactured on machinery similar to that used for covering coatings. They can also be finished with the techniques commonly used on quikrete basement ground covering.

Concrete covering landscape products have become a rapidly changing area driven by creativity. New ground covering products are appearing regularly. Some of these produce new looks and some have further benefits for the environment. Designers are putting even the existing clear covering ground coating to new uses. It is impossible to predict all the new covering surfaces contractors products and applications that will become important in the future.
